The Basics of Skin Care

If you’re brand-new to the idea of a skin-care routine, it helps to start at the very beginning. But as skin care has become trendier and its definition has become wider in scope, it’s also gotten a little more intimidating and confusing for a beginner to get started. There are a few simple steps to keep in mind.

Clean – Bacteria can block pores, causing oil to clog and create blackheads, blemishes, and overall dull complexion. Don’t sleep in makeup, and cleanse everyday. Remember the following during the cleanse process:

  • Don’t overrub
  • Use lukewarm water and pat dry
  • Opt for a gentle cleanser

Exfoliate – Dead cells on the outermost layer of skin naturally shed. Exfoliation accelerates the process to reveal more radiant skin and stimulate cell renewal. Here’s a few things about exfoliation to remember:

  • it will reveal a softer, smoother texture
  • it can be mechanical or chemical
  • always avoid over exfoliation

Nourish – Give skin the nutrients vitals to it’s built-in protection and rejuvenation processes, so the body’s natural healing functions can optimally perform. Nourishing the skin allows a few things to happen. Nourish to restore the ideal pH level. This step provides nutrients skin loves. Nourishing the skin addresses individual skin concerns.

Hydrate – Hydrated skin is beautiful skin. Drink plenty of water, and use daily moisturizer and night cream matched to your skin type and concerns. You here it all the time, up your water intake and everyone needs to moisturize. Just a few more tips to think about hydrating your skin. Hydration helps internally and externally. Use day moisturizer and a night cream. Properly moisturize all skin types even oily types.

Protect – Shield your skin from burns, and commit to smart skin protection: Cover up, skip the tanning booth, and wear broad spectrum SPF every day. Protect by always wearing sunscreen regardless of skin tone. Be sure to look for “broad-spectrum” SPF and if you are active, use a performance formula for exercise.
