It’s National Lipstick Day

Yeah! It’s National Lipstick Day! Lipstick has been around for thousands of years – in Ancient Egypt, Cleopatra had beetles crushed up so that she could use them to color her lips deep red.

Lipstick is one of the most commonly-used kinds of makeup because it is relatively cheap, and one tube can last a very long time, yet it is also very effective. For this reason, many women have a whole selection of makeup, chosen to match their various outfits as well as their skin tone. If you want to spend a little extra to expand your collection, there are many options available, such as glimmer lipsticks, matte and ones that won’t come off on shirts or other people’s faces.

As one of the most prominent features on your face, your lips are supposed to stand out. Unfortunately, standing out without a shield for protection against harsh weather can lead to dull lips. That’s why regularly adding moisture to lips as part of a daily ritual is the best defense against lips that appear dull, cracked, flaky and wind/sun burned. Be sure to swipe on a lip conditioner like Beyond Color Lip Conditioner by Avon  under your favorite lip color. Reapply whenever lips feel dry.

Rocking a red lip is one makeup look that will never go out of style. In the video below, Avon Celebrity Makeup Artist Kelsey Deenihan shows you how to get a classic red lip look in 3 steps using Avon True Color makeup.

How to Get a Classic Red Lip

Flawless red lips are just 3 steps away in this makeup tutorial.

1. To get the lipstick look, start with the Avon True Color Glimmersticks Lip Liner in True Red.

2. Next, apply Avon True Color Bold Lipstick in Ruby Shock straight from the tube to the lips.

3. Complete the classic red lip by perfecting your edges using a brush and Avon True Color Flawless Concealer Stick.

You are ready to go, with perfect lips. Continue with touch ups during the day. If you are not used to wearing lipstick, it will probably take awhile to get used to having your lips done and not “eating” the lipstick. The plus to having nice lips, aside from the obvious, is you will never be plagued with dry lips again an over time they become softer. That’s certainly reason enough to take care of your lips.
